The Challenge

We’ve had the pleasure of working with Samsung on a series of productions to date, covering everything from digital signage content creation to videography. For this project, we were tasked with producing a video case study of one of their most recent technology installs at London’s St George’s Primary School. The aim was to showcase Samsung’s technology expertise in the education industry, and how the school have adopted Samsung into its everyday learning - just in time for the BETT 2023 event.

Our team handled everything from storyboarding, logistics planning, preparation of speaker scripts, filming and editing, and also photography and copywriting, allowing us to accompany the video with a written case study for online use.

There’s a lot of work that goes into planning and executing a video case study - even if the end result is just 2- 3 minutes long, every second needs to convey something meaningful to keep the audience engaged.

Our Approach

Shooting a video case study involves several steps to ensure a successful outcome. First, we needed to determine the purpose of the video, identifying the key points to highlight. This involved a fair amount of research by our team into the products, followed by interviewing the school’s headteacher and Samsung’s Education Lead for additional pre-shoot information.

Next, a story along with a shoot plan was created as part of a brief pack, outlining the flow for the day, including filming locations, equipment needed and the overall structure for the video.

When people are doing pieces-to-camera, it can be off-putting. So for us it’s all about making them feel comfortable, engaging them in a normal conversation, so that everything comes across as natural as possible in the final edit.

The Detail

Once on-site, we scouted the school and all available shoot spaces to ensure that the lighting, sound, and camera angles were all optimal for capturing high-quality footage. Interviews and footage of the school’s atmosphere were all recorded with multiple takes, cameras and angles to ensure a variety of options during the editing process.

This included shooting with an anamorphic lens, perfect for adding drama to the close-up shots. Overall, the shoot day was extremely rewarding, the children loved being part of the process, as did the teachers too - making for an even more beautiful end result.

It’s always a challenge to film in a busy environment where everyone’s going about their usual day - but we used everything to our advantage and just planned the day out really well, knowing exactly what we wanted to capture, and when our window of opportunity was.

The Results

Following the shoot, the footage was edited together beautifully to deliver a very clear and engaging story. Lighting and audio adjustments were then made, while music and transitions were added to create a compelling final video just in time for BETT 2023, an important event for Samsung at which the video case study will be played on loop at their exhibitor stand. The final video was also cut into various shorter reels for use across social media.
